2012 VAPA Physician Assistant of the Year
Purpose: To honor a PA in Virginia who has demonstrated exemplary service to the PA profession and their community, and has furthered the image of PAs.

Entry/Nominations Procedure: Any PA who has been a VAPA member in good standing for the last three years and does not currently serve as a member of the VAPA Board of Directors may participate in the award competition by self-nomination or by nomination by another VAPA member. This PA must also have demonstrated exemplary service to VAPA and shown leadership and been a mentor to others in the state.
All nominees will receive a certificate of nomination.
Nominations and related material must arrive at the VAPA no later than May 15, 2012. Please send submissions to Amy Shaw at vapa@vapa.org. All submissions will be acknowledged. If you do not receive a confirmation within three business days, please call (434) 977-3716, to be certain that material was received.
2012 Physician/PA Partnership Award
Purpose: This award will be presented to a Physician-PA team exemplifying the unique working relationship essential for excellent health care to patients and the community. The partnership will display evidence of collaboration, trust, collegiality, and mutual respect.

Entry/Nominations Procedure:
- The PA must be a current VAPA member.
- Any individual may nominate a physician-PA team for this award.
- The team must have practiced together for a minimum of two years.
- There must be supporting documentation of the team’s interaction with patients (letters from patients, staff, applicants). Two supporting letters are recommended.
- There must be evidence of community involvement demonstrating the team approach to medicine in order to provide medical service to patients and their community that would not be possible if working alone.

2012 VAPA Outstanding Physician Assistant Preceptor of the Year
Purpose: This award recognizes a physician preceptor whose qualities of leadership, professionalism, and dedication to quality care exemplify the physician/physician assistant team concept.

Entry/Nominations Procedure: Nominees may be either MDs or DOs working in the Commonwealth of Virginia who meet the following criteria:
- Must have knowledge and show support of the PA concept through direct professional involvement.
- Must have directly contributed to PA professional growth through formal or informal association with physician assistants in current medical practice.
- Must set high standards of conduct and ethical behavior in patient care.
- Should have distinguished himself and herself as highly supportive of PA students through his or her performance and contribution to the physician/PA team concept.

2012 VAPA Physician Assistant Student of the Year
Purpose: This award will be presented to a senior physician assistant student in good standing attending an accredited PA program.

Entry/Nominations Procedure:
- The PA student must be a current VAPA member.
- Any individual may nominate a student; self nominations are accepted.
- Submit one letter of reference from a faculty member in the PA program.
- Additionally, in a separate document, submit in 500 words or less, an answer to one of the following questions:
- Why did you choose the physician assistant profession and what are your future goals?
- What role does community service in medicine play in promoting the PA profession?
- Provide an experience during PA school, perhaps a patient you interacted with or a project you were involved in, and how this experience will affect how you practice in your PA profession.
